My Heartfelt Gratitude

8th June 2009

Between 1st June and 7th June, in response to a last-ditch appeal (see below), a group of wonderful neighbors and neighbours of the Twitterhood reached out to help me stay online and tweeting during a temporary financial crisis (well, I hope it's temporary anyway!) and I would like to give my heartfelt thanks here (in alphabetical order) to all who donated:

@azandiaMJBB@brendamantz@brmbds@darenbbc
@greeneyes1966@Inthehillsfish@k8dt@mhemig
@MissShuganah@RedMummy@robslap@Rumcheeka
@seaslug_of_doom@seekzpeace@ShamanicShift and  @smartie999 ...

... also the 3 kind people who bought my e-book and the 2 who took individual linked spaces in the Twitterhood website although they had probably not been planning to do so before the appeal!

Thank you also to those who tweeted and retweeted my appeal, and their pleas that it be heard, tirelessly all week long. You are stars and I will not forget :-)

Between you you have made sure that I can tweet until the end of June and I hope to be able to manage the costs myself after that :-)

What It Was About (For Anyone Who Doesn't Know)

It came to the crunch, as it had to and, hard though it might have been to type a plea for help, there was no alternative I could think of that I hadn't already tried.

The bottom line was that I needed some financial support to be able to stay on Twitter. That help has now been received to cover the month of June and I'm hoping some work that has now come in will cover next month's costs, although I never count my chickens before they are hatched. For anyone who'd  like to help avert another disaster within a month but doesn't have the time to read about why I may be obliged to ask, here is a donation button:

Thank you for helping - believe me I wouldn't have asked if there were an alternative! Update: Thanks to generosity in donations and purchases of linked spaces and copies of The Elevator Trick, there is now enough to cover the rest of the month's Twitter expenses and work is starting to come in that should help to cover it after that! Yay!

This is what was on this page on 1st June:

As the sole breadwinner since our catering contract at the Anchorage Club ended in October 2007, I have done my best to keep our finances going. My freelance writing seemed to be going well until the recession struck and my clientele dried up altogether a few weeks ago!

My applications for online jobs have, thus far, been unsuccessful and my efforts to create an income online have had pathetic results. With luck one of the applications still outstanding will be accepted but who knows?

10 kind people  donated a total of US$233 via the Twitterhood website (http://www.linnetwoods.com/twitterhood/) and 11 people bought linked spaces there (http://www.linnetwoods.com/twitterhood/inclusion.htm) for a total of $64.50. I am very grateful and those donations and purchases have, at least, paid for the hosting of my website for the next 2 years and ensured that the Twitterhood website will stay online whether I do or not! The remainder of that money covered the 59 Euros for last month's Internet service.

Since I launched my first e-book, The Elevator Trick (http://www.linnetwoods.com/twitterhood/stuff/the-elevator-trick.html) a few days ago, I have sold three copies at US$5 each. Whoopee!

Now we are down to our last few euros and there is no way I can meet the cost of the next Internet service bill (I barely scraped through last month) so I will go offline some time in the next few days and have no idea when I will be able to afford to return to it.

Our catering equipment has been in storage at huge expense for 18 months. We would have sold it long since, had we not been offered financial backing to start another bar by someone who changed his mind when we finally found a place that fitted the description he had given, not even having the courtesy to inform us that he didn't want to go ahead!

The equipment goes to auction on Thursday next week but there is no way we can afford to spend anything we raise from that on the Internet. The Skipper and I were in agreement that I could be online including tweeting as long as my online activities paid for themselves and, since my writing work dried up, I have failed in that endeavour.

The grandchildren are relying on seeing their granddad in Croatia five weeks from now and somehow we must get there. There is a major sail repair still outstanding and the boat has to be provisioned so whatever money we get from the auction is already spoken for!

Being a positive and cheerful person, I believe that everything will work out somehow and that I will be able to take up where I left off, so I'm hoping that you won't stop following me on Twitter when I have to disappear for a while.

Much as I have enjoyed doing the daily quiz these past six months it has cost a lot in fuel and Internet time and I suppose I shouldn't really have spent that money but I don't regret it and I do hope to be able to start again at some point.

So this is my long-winded of saying that, unless there's a miracle in the immediate future, it is farewell and thank you for the lovely time I've had with you and I do hope I'll find you still following when I manage to raise enough money to return to my Twitter life :-)

Don't disappear just yet though, I think I have a couple of days more fuel and Internet connection allocation left which is why I thought I'd better explain myself now, while I still can. Cheers! :-)

Linnet (((HUGS)))

P.S. Once my Internet connection goes, whenever I can get to an Internet cafe and I have a couple of Euros I'll drop by and say hello! :-)
